THE VALUE OF VALUES
Values are commonly referred to in business for marketing reasons and to empower the staff and organization to uphold them. Buy in is dependant on the culture of the organization and individuals’ values.
Very often these values are chosen off lists of possible common value words. Although helpful, it is also a pitfall for what ‘should’ be valued vs. what is. This can get challenging😊.
And, it can get even more so, if individuals ‘Core Values’ conflict with the ones on the wall.
So, to address this challenge, I recommend uncovering and discovering your unique core values.
What are ‘Core Values’? They are values unique to each individual from their experiences usually as children. They come out of what was missing or what was admired. They are ‘must haves’ and ‘do not cross’ values😊.
And, here’s the catch: No one value is the same to all people. I remember a workshop I held on values where I asked the audience who valued honesty. They all put up their hands (except one person – we all looked over at😊). Then I asked 3 people to share what honest meant to them and got 3 different answers. And, one in particular said it so strongly that it was a ‘do not cross’ value – a Core Value!
We all have our own take on things, right! Especially from our well-earned wisdom from years of experience. I don’t recommend that you ‘think on this’. This is not academic or ‘knowledge’. It’s from the heart and your wisdom. I highly recommend you work with a professional who is properly trained and experienced in guiding the conversation and listening to you and for you😊.
Why is this so very useful and helpful, especially at this stage of life? Even though we may have slowed down from the frantic pace of younger years, we VALUE TIME more than ever. And knowing your core values has many benefits – of which one is valuing time – not wasting it on hit and miss or long periods of uncertainty or even stagnation and decline. Let’s not go there😊.
– Well there are many more good reasons and uses for YOUR CORE VALUES. What are some of your reasons? Do you know your ‘Core Values’?
